Welcome To My Art Blog

February 3rd, 2009

Today I was filmed by Chek TV in Victoria, BC Canada.  The reason for being filmed was because the BC Lions Society Invited me to participate in the Eagles In The City The footage will be shown on Island 30 at 6:30 pm February 10th.  Being filmed made me feel warm and tingly my heart started racing, my inner voice said take a deep breath this is exactly what you have always wanted.  Then I smiled and the interview was suddenly flowing along, feeling comfortable sharing my artistic process and the experience with Dana Hutchings.

A few months ago Peter Tongue interviewed me about my eye surgeries and how I coped with being blind for 6 weeks in the summer of 2008.  Here is the link for you if you would listen to us.

One of the float homes pictured here belongs to my dear friend Judy.  We love to sit on her deck and watch the sea lions, otters, eagles, birds, and fish jumping & playing in beautiful Genoa Bay.  Getting together with friends and family is time I cherish.  I believe the reason we are here is to connect with people, animals and the elements of this planet.

This pencil sketch on canvas is of the view from the deck on the back of the Green Float Home pictured in December 31st entry in the blog.  I love to walk on docks, feeling the rocking motion of the waves, then find the perfect image that catches my attention then I take out my favorite wool sketching blanket lay it out neatly on the dock get comfortable and let the pencil fly across the canvas or paper faster that I can evaluate my marks.  Sketching depth into my drawings excites and enlivens me.  What excites and enlivens you?

This image was created for a woman who is writing a book on employee retention using boating terminologies as metaphors for work environments. I created this image by taking a photo of one of my sketches on canvas then loading the image into my Photoshop program and putting the colour on using my Wacom tablet and a few of the tools in Photoshop.  I am grateful she was delighted with the first draft.

This float home is also an amazing bread and breakfest.  Stephanie & I had the pleasure of staying there this summer for a romantic evening. I spent the two days before and after our evening experiencing the energy of the boat I was commissioned to paint.  I love to feel how the water makes the float home move the bobbing is very soothing to me.  The inside of the float home is trimmed out like a fine sail boat.  There is a spacious ensuite with the most comfortable bed and linens available.  The kitchen has all the ease of home with modern up to date appliances.  In the great room you will find a state of the art flat screen TV, surround sound stereo, DVD player, and cozy furniture.  One of the my favorite features of this float home was a deck built off the back where you could sit on the float home at a small table for two, day or night, sunny or rainy and stay comfortable, there was even a box of extra blankets outside just in case a cool breeze came up.

"Floatie Warms The Bay With Love" now has the first few layers of acrylic paint along with some shadows and highlights.  When creating a painting I know when it is going really good when the painting grabs me and takes me into its world.  The world of this painting is a cozy snowy world.  This painting is a commission for the couple that owns the float home depicted here on the left.

December 29th, 2008,

"Floatie Warms The Bay With Love" is the name of this sketch which is sketched on canvas, original dimensions 30 x 24 inches.  I created the above sketch this summer before my retinas detached.  A few weeks ago I started playing around on this sketch and when the sketch was finished this is what it looked like.  I have so been enjoying the experience of creating again since my eyes are healing.  The pleasure of  bringing into being sketches & paintings is delicious as seeing your loved ones face in the morning.  The float home & boat houses are located in quaint & picturesque Genoa Bay, BC at the end of a winding and wonderful two lane road through pine tree forests and meadow pastures.  Beautiful, British Columbia.
